Rwanda is also known as ‘the land of a thousand hills’, is a beautiful landlocked country that is located in East Africa.
The entire country is elevated, and even though the country is close to the equator, the temperature here is cool. The country is covered with a grassy hill terrain.
The country thrives on its tourism industry. Rich in wildlife and animal reserves, the country gets a lot of tourists because of some of their rare species like the mountain gorillas.
The country is now on its come back to standing on its feet and is growing economically and is considered to be Africa’s biggest success story.
The city of Kigali was awarded the habitat scroll in recognition of the cleanliness of the city, the security, and its urban conservation model’.
Rwanda is known for the horrendous genocide that was responsible for the trauma, death, and havoc that a lot of its population went through. In a matter of about one hundred days, about one million tootsies and Hutus were killed by the Interahamwe militia.
Now Rwanda has grown a lot since then and fixed itself. The social concept of tribes and such has been eradicated by the government. The people now have a common Rwandan identity. Mountain gorilla treks are the country’s major natural resource and so the government is promoting it pro-actively.
The world-famous Parq National des Volcanoes. Gorillas in the mist is a book which was written by Dian Fossey. This story is based on this region. When you are here it is not uncommon to come face to face with a silver-back in the wild. In fact, that is one of the big highlights of your trip to Africa.
The famous endangered golden monkey is one of the star attractions in the Parq National Des Volcans. Colobus monkeys and chimpanzees are found in the southeast section of the forest reserve. When you’ve had loads of fun with the animals, be sure to stop by and relax over the weekend on the shores of Lake Kivu, check yourself into the many local resorts, and take a tour of the beautiful city of Kigali which is said to be one of the most scenic capitals in east Africa.
After the genocide, Rwanda is visited also for its genocide memorial sites. There is a memorial center in Kigali that has testimonials and a display o what happened during the terrible time that Rwanda lost so many of its people.
